Every path requires a specific level: B1 for Ausbildung, C1 for direct university studies, A1 for the Chancenkarte. Choosing the right language school has a real impact on how fast you progress.

Where to learn German in Morocco

The Goethe-Institut has exactly two locations in Morocco: Casablanca, 11 Place du 16 Novembre, and Rabat, 7 Rue Sana'a. Both run courses from A1 to C2 and both hold exams from A1 to C2. There is no Goethe-Institut in Fez, Tangier, Agadir, Oujda, Meknes, Kenitra or Marrakesh. If you live in one of those cities you will have to travel, or study online or at a private school near you. Goethe-Institut exams are held only at its two centres, Casablanca and Rabat. Other recognised certifications exist — telc, ÖSD — with their own exam centres, which we have not surveyed: ask those organisations what is available near you before you plan a trip.

Which level for which route

Two requirements get confused all the time, and the mistake is expensive: the level German law asks for your visa, and the level schools and employers ask before they will take you at all. They are not the same, and the second one usually comes first.

Taking a course and sitting an exam are two different things

A course teaches you the language; an exam certifies your level. At best, at the end of a course you get an attendance certificate — ask in writing, before you pay, whether it is issued and what it states: it says you were there, not what you can do. What the German school, the employer and the consulate look at is the exam certificate alone. And most candidates do not know this: you can register for the exam without having taken the institute's courses. If you study alone, with a private tutor or online, you only pay for the certification.

An end-of-course certificate proves attendance, not your level

Exam registration is separate from course registration: prepare wherever you like, then come only to be tested

These amounts move: check them with the institute on the day you register. Private schools set their own prices freely, and we have not verified them

Before you pay a private school: the checklist

This is the moment the money leaves, and the moment the promises get their prettiest. Keep one rule in mind: a school teaches, and that is all. It does not award a level, the exam decides that, and it has no power whatsoever over your visa, which belongs to the German authorities. Any sentence claiming otherwise is a warning sign, not a selling point. Before you pay anything, get it all in writing and keep a trace of every dirham.

Ask in writing for: number of hours, dates, group size, name of the teacher, total price, and what happens if you drop out or the course is cancelled
Get a receipt in your own name for every payment. No receipt, no recourse later
Red flags: guaranteed B1, guaranteed certificate, guaranteed visa, unverifiable official partnerships, full cash payment upfront, pressure to sign today
A school teaches. Your level is decided by the exam, your visa by the German authorities. Nobody else can promise either
If the exam registration is being resold to you at a heavy markup, know that you can register yourself directly with the institute

Why this choice matters

Not all schools teach German the same way. For Ausbildung in particular, aiming directly for a German level close to B2, with technical vocabulary, saves you from discovering the real difficulty only once you're at the Berufsschule. We always recommend checking that an official exam (Goethe-Institut, telc, ÖSD, or TestDaF depending on your path) has proper exam prep available in your city.

Common questions

I live in Fez, Tangier or Agadir. Where is the nearest Goethe-Institut?

There is none in your city. The Goethe-Institut is present only in Casablanca (11, Place du 16 Novembre) and Rabat (7, Rue Sana'a). You can study online or at a private school near you, but Goethe-Institut exams are sat in one of those two cities. Plan the travel, a night on site if the schedule requires it, and register early. If you are aiming for another certification, telc or ÖSD, ask them directly where their exam centres are.

What German level do I really need for an Ausbildung?

B1 is the legal minimum for the visa side; have the exact requirement confirmed by the consulate. But many schools and employers, especially in healthcare and jobs with public contact, ask for B2 before they take you: these are two different requirements, and the second usually comes first. In care work, the only training that opens below B2 is the Pflegefachassistenz.

Can I sit a Goethe exam without taking its courses?

Yes. Exam registration is independent of course registration. You can prepare on your own, with a private tutor or online, then travel to Casablanca or Rabat only to be tested. Many candidates pay for entire course levels without knowing this. Just check the exam dates and available seats before you fix a target.

How much do courses and exams cost?

As orders of magnitude, based on Goethe-Institut rates recorded in 2026: around 3 000 MAD per course level, around 2 500 MAD for the B1 exam and around 2 800 MAD for the B2 exam. These are markers for building your budget, not firm prices: amounts change, and only the institute counts on the day you register. Private schools set their own prices freely, and we have not verified them. Add travel, and accommodation if you come from far.
